The Balearic Government has submitted to the regional Parliament a new bill on the planning, protection and comprehensive management of the coastline, addressing a broad range of matters relating to the protection and management of the Balearic coastline. One of the provisions attracting particular attention from the yachting industry is Article 49, which proposes a 10-knot speed limit within a one-nautical-mile strip of sea adjacent to the coast for vessels over 12 metres in length, as well as for jet skis and similar craft.
The proposed measure could have a significant impact on yacht operations and navigation throughout the Balearic Islands, particularly during the summer season. Miguel Ángel Serra, Founding Partner of Legalley+, recently analysed the proposed legislation and its potential implications for the yachting industry in an article published by SuperyachtNews.
